Discord Automation Platform
Master Blaster Bot
A Node.js and discord.js automation platform for Discord community management, moderation, voice workflows, member lifecycle automation, YouTube monitoring, and automated regression testing.
01
Project Overview
Master Blaster Bot is a modular Discord automation platform built for the Master Blaster Media community and designed to automate repetitive moderation, member, notification, voice, and streamer workflows.
The application handles Discord server configuration, member lifecycle behavior, role management, moderation commands, locked voice-room workflows, livestream notifications, YouTube upload monitoring, and interaction routing.
As the bot expanded, the project was progressively refactored toward dedicated services and handlers so Discord events, external integrations, and business rules remain testable and maintainable.
02
Architecture
- Node.js application using discord.js for Discord API integration
- Event handlers separated from business and workflow logic
- Slash command modules organized around moderation, streamer, and voice responsibilities
- Dedicated services for members, roles, publishing, server setup, and YouTube integration
- Shared interaction handlers for command and button routing
- Persistent YouTube notification state separated from Discord command behavior
- Vitest regression suite using mocked Discord and YouTube dependencies
- GitHub Actions continuous integration for automated validation
03
Engineering Decisions
- Refactored application startup so src/index.js remains focused on composition and application bootstrap
- Separated Discord lifecycle events from business logic to reduce coupling
- Placed YouTube API behavior behind a dedicated integration service
- Stored upload and livestream notification state separately so external API state does not become mixed with Discord command logic
- Added regression tests before continuing to expand bot functionality
- Used shared interaction routing rather than duplicating response logic across individual commands
- Kept permission and role-management logic centralized so Discord hierarchy rules can be validated consistently
04
Challenges
- Testing Discord behavior without depending on a live Discord server
- Preventing duplicate YouTube upload and livestream announcements
- Handling Discord role hierarchy and channel permissions safely
- Managing locked voice-room workflows while still supporting moderator-controlled movement between channels
- Preventing YouTube notification state from advancing when Discord publishing fails
- Maintaining predictable command behavior as the bot grew from a small script into a modular application
05
Testing & Validation
- 67 automated regression tests
- Moderation command regression coverage
- Voice-room workflow coverage
- Member lifecycle integration tests
- Role and server-setup behavior tests
- YouTube upload monitoring regression tests
- YouTube livestream notification regression tests
- Interaction routing and error-handling coverage
- GitHub Actions continuous integration
